Guyana announces winners in oil and gas tender and new oil and gas discovery

The National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB) of Guyana has announced the companies selected to move to the next stage of its international Licensing Round 2022 for eight oil and gas blocks (six shallow and two deep blocks). A consortium of TotalEnergies, QatarEnergy and Petronas was selected for the shallow block S4, while a consortium of ExxonMobil, Hess and CNOOC was selected for the shallow block S8.

Meanwhile, a consortium led by ExxonMobil has made a significant discovery of oil and gas in the Lancetfish-2 well in the Liza production license area; the amount of hydrocarbon resources in place remains undisclosed. This is the fourth offshore discovery in Guyana for 2023 after Fangtooth SE-1 and Lancetfish 1 in the Stabroek Block, and Wei-1 in the Corentyne Block. It raises the total number of discoveries from 2015 to date to a total of 46.
