GUVNL invites bids for up to 1.6 GW of solar capacity in Gujarat (India)

India’s Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd. (GUVNL) has invited bids to procure 800 MW of grid connected solar projects at the Khavda Solar Park in the state of Gujarat (western India), with a greenshoe option for an additional 800 MW of capacity. Bids can be submitted until 15 June 2023 and GUVNL will enter into a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with successful bidders. The minimum bidding capacity is set at 100 MW and bids can be submitted only in multiples of 100 MW. The projects will be designed to deliver electricity for the Gujarat Energy Transmission Corporation (GETCO) periphery.

In March 2023, GUVNL also issued a tender to procure 500 MW of grid-connected wind projects in the state of Gujarat or across India, with an additional 500 MW under a greenshoe option.

At the end of 2021, solar and wind accounted for over 20% of installed capacity in India, with respectively 49 GW and 40 GW, while hydropower capacity surpassed 51 GW. India plans to increase its non-fossil fuel capacity to 500 GW and meet 50% of its energy requirements from renewables by 2030.
