Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd (GUVNL) has launched a tender for the development of 1 GW/4 GWh of standalone BESS projects in the Indian state of Gujarat (Energetica India, 17/08/2026). The tender is planned to be awarded through an e-bidding process followed by an e-reverse auction.

Submitted projects must be located near 11 designated substations of Gujarat's state transmission network, guarantee a minimum annual system availability of 95%, while the storage systems must operate at a C-rate of 0.25.  The minimum bid size is set at 65 MW/260 MWh and BESS must be able of being charged or discharged in groups ranging between 50 MW/200 MWh and 100 MW/400 MWh. The projects are to be developed on a build-own-operate basis and connected to the state's transmission network, with the storage capacity procured by GUVNL on an on-demand basis to support state distribution companies during peak and off-peak periods.

Selected bidders will enter into Battery Energy Storage Purchase Agreements (BESPAs) with GUVNL. Bid submissions are due by 14 September 2026, with techno-commercial bids scheduled to be opened on 18 September 2026
