Greece’s PPC invites bid for a 500 MW solar project in Ptolemaida

PPC Renewables, an affiliate of the Greek state-owned power utility Public Power Corporation (PPC), is seeking bids to build a 550 MW solar project at a former lignite mine in Ptolemaida. Bids are open until 30 September 2022. The selected contractor will be tasked with design, civil engineering works, transmission, installation and commissioning of the plant, which will be located in the municipalities of Eordaia and Kozani in Western Macedonia.

The company is currently building a 660 MW lignite-fire power plant at Ptolemaida (Ptolemaida V) since 2016. The project, which is expected to be commissioned by end-2022, should be converted into a gas-fired unit by 2025. Greece committed to phase out coal-fired generation by 2025.
