Germany plans to hold a tender for 1.5 GW of solar PV capacity in January 2023

The German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, through a third amendment to its Energy Security Act, is planning changes in its energy legislation in order to increase renewable power production and reduce gas dependency.

To this end, the country is expected to hold a tender with the aim to deploy 1.5 GW of solar PV capacity. The deadline to submit project proposals would be set for 15 January 2023. In this tender, projects will not exceed 100 MW in size and the selected solar projects will have to reach completion within nine months after securing feed-in premium tariffs.

In addition, the abolition of the “70%” rule for new solar PV systems up to 25 kW of installed capacity, which had been decided for 1 January 2023, will be brought forward in time to 14 September 2022. Until now, operators of such solar PV systems were required to limit the active power feed-in of their system to 70% or to equip their system with a control device.
