Germany launches tender for the development of 4 GW of onshore wind capacity

Germany’s energy regulator Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur) has launched its second tender round for onshore wind of 2024, in which it offers 4,094 MW of capacity. This represents a significant increase compared to the initially planned capacity of 2,500 MW for the tender. The maximum value for projects competing in the auction was set €7.35c/kWh and bids can be submitted until 2 May 2024.

The tendered volume for the two other upcoming auctions of 2024 was also boosted to 4,094 MW, from their original planned capacity of 2,500 MW. With the increase in tendered volume, Germany plans to invite bids for about 15 GW of onshore wind during the course of 2024.

In its first onshore wind tender of 2024, the Bundesnetzagentur awarded 1,836 MW of onshore wind capacity across 129 bids. The tender was undersubscribed, as the original tendered quantity was set at 2,486 MW.
