Germany launches tender for 3,192 MW of onshore wind capacity

The German Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur) has launched its second round of onshore wind tender for 2023, in which Germany seeks to award 3,192 MW of capacity. Projects eligible to compete in the onshore wind auction must have been granted permits under Germany’s Federal Immission Control Act by 3 April 2023 and the offered price must not exceed €7.35c/kWh.

In addition, the Bundesnetzagentur launched a tender for 400 MW of innovative projects. The innovation tender is open to wind, solar, energy storage, biomass, geothermal energy and hydropower projects that combine two technologies to support the grid and integration of renewable energy. The offered price was set at a maximum value of €9.18c/kWh.

The deadline for both tenders has been set for 1 May 2023.  Germany’s previous onshore wind tenders have been largely unsubscribed. In early March 2023, Germany’s latest onshore wind tender attracted 126 bids totalling 1,502 MW, out of the 3,210 MW expected (119 projects were eventually selected). During the previous onshore wind round in December 2022, Germany awarded only 189 MW, spread over 14 bids, out of the 604 MW expected.
