The German Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur or BNetzA) has launched the second 2018 renewable energies bidding round for onshore wind and solar power projects. The bidding date has been set for 1 November 2018. 200 MW will be available and the two technologies compete directly for the lowest cost of power generation. Bids will be capped at €8.75c/kWh for both technologies (versus €8.84c/kWh in the previous dual auction).
The first joint wind-solar power tender took place in April 2018 and 200 MW were available. The tender was nearly twice oversubscribed, with submissions for a total capacity of 395 MW. 32 bids for 210 MW of solar projects were selected, with an average volume-weighted aggregate value of €4.67c/kWh (higher than the €4.33c/kWh rate in the last purely solar tender). The lowest bid was €3.96c/kWh, while the highest one hit €5.76/kWh. No wind project qualified in the auction, which proved the excellent price-to-performance ratio of solar facility but not the suitability of joint tenders.
