Germany issues tender for 650 MW of ‘innovative’ renewable projects

The German energy regulator (Bundesnetzagentur, federal network agency) has launched a tender for 650 MW of renewable power projects with innovative technologies (400 MW for 2020 plus 250 MW for projects non awarded in 2019), focusing on bids on arable and grassland areas in disadvantaged areas. The upper limit in the network expansion area for this tender round is 141 MW. Projects developers will have to submit their bids by 1 September 2020 and the bids will be capped at €3c/kWh for individual systems and at €7.5c/kWh for system combinations.

In June 2020, the Bundesnetzagentur published the results of two tenders for 826 MW of onshore wind and 96 MW of solar projects, with a bidding date set for 1 June 2020. The onshore wind auction was undersubscribed, as 62 offers with a total capacity of 468 MW were submitted, and 61 bids totalling 464 MW were awarded. The value of the submitted bids ranged between €5.90c/kWh and €6.20c/kWh, with an average bidding price of €6.14c/kWh, which is higher than in the previous round (€6.07c/kWh). The solar auction for 96 MW was oversubscribed as 101 offers with a total capacity of 447 MW were submitted, and 21 bids totalling 99.6 MW were awarded. The value of the submitted bids ranged between €4.90c/kWh and €5.40c/kWh, with an average bidding price of €5.27c/kWh, which is higher than the previous round (€5.18c/kWh).
