Germany delays 2.5 GW of offshore wind auctions planned for 2026

Germany has cancelled offshore wind auctions for 2.5 GW of capacity in the North Sea that were originally scheduled for 2026, delaying them by at least one year.Following an unsuccessful tender for the N-10.1 and N-10.2 sites in the North Sea in August 2025, the government had planned to relaunch the auctions in June 2026. However, the German cabinet has now decided to suspend all offshore wind tenders in 2026.

The N-10.1 and N-10.2 wind parks, with a combined capacity of 2.5 GW, were initially expected to come online in 2030 and 2031. According to a spokesperson for the economy ministry, the cabinet approved a legal amendment to shift this year’s auctions to 2027 (Bloomberg, 28/01/2026).

Germany has set ambitious targets to expand offshore wind capacity to 30 GW by 2030, 40 GW by 2035, and 70 GW by 2045. In addition, at the end of January 2026, North Sea countries, including Germany, pledged to deliver 100 GW of new offshore wind capacity by 2050 through large-scale joint projects (KEI, 27/01/2026).
