Germany awards only 54% of the capacity in a 2.9 GW onshore wind tender

The German Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur or BNetzA) has released the results of the latest round of tenders for 2,866 MW of onshore wind projects, with a bid deadline on 1 May 2023. The auction capacity attracted 127 bids totalling 1,597 MW. Seven bids were excluded and 120 projects totalling 1,535 MW were selected with prices ranging from €7.25c/kWh to €7.35c/kWh (weighted average of €7.34c/kWh, close to the maximum permissible value of €7.35c/kW).

Most of the projects will be developed in North Rhine-Westphalia (472 MW, 40 awards) and Lower Saxony (277 MW, 15 bids). This tender was only 56% subscribed, compared to 31% in the previous auction, while the weighted average tariff grew by 25% (€5.87c/kWh in December 2022).

In addition, the regulator received 3 bids totalling 84 MW for an innovation tender with a tendered volume of 400 MW. All bids, which referred to system combinations of solar systems with storage, were accepted.
