Germany has selected 439 bids in its latest onshore wind auction, covering the full 3,445 MW of offered capacity. The German Federal Network Agency reported that 924 bids totalling 7.9 GW were submitted, making the tender heavily oversubscribed (Federal Network Agency press release, 31/03/2026).
The successful bids ranged between EUR5.19c/kWh and EUR5.64c/kWh. The volume-weighted average award price decreased to EUR5.54c/kWh from EUR6.06c/kWh in the previous round. This represents the lowest average award value since February 2018. “The largest award volume was for sites in Lower Saxony (957 MW, 96 awards), followed by sites in North Rhine-Westphalia (661 MW, 100 awards), Saxony-Anhalt (438 MW, 53 awards) and Brandenburg (396 MW, 60 awards). The southern states of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg account for a total of only two percent of the award volume”, according to the press release.
The announcement follows Germany’s recent launch of two tenders to develop nearly 2.5 GW of onshore wind capacity and 475 MW of innovative hybrid installations, with a deadline for bid submission set for 4 May 2026 (KEI, 31/03/2026).
Additionally, 85 bids for solar systems on buildings and noise barriers, with a volume of 155 MW, were awarded. The tendered quantity was 283 MW, and 98 bids were submitted, corresponding to a bid volume of 177 MW. The award values determined under the bid price procedure ranged from EUR7.88c/kWh to EUR10c/kWh. Most of the awards were granted to sites in North Rhine-Westphalia (50 MW, 24 awards), followed by Lower Saxony (17 MW, 12 awards) and Brandenburg (17 MW, 9 awards).
