Germany awards 2.3 GW of solar capacity in an oversubscribed auction

The German Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur or BNetzA) has published the results of the latest tender for solar projects with a bidding date set for 1 March 2026, which was significantly oversubscribed (BNetzA press release, 12/05/2026). Indeed, the auction for 2,295 MW of solar capacity attracted 532 bids totalling 4,622 MW

39 bids were excluded and 268 projects with a total capacity of 2,299 MW were selected, with price ranging from EUR3.99c/kWh to EUR5.10c/kWh (weighted average of EUR4.94c/kWh, -1.2% compared to the previous round). 

Many projects were awarded in Bavaria (106 awards, totalling 693 MW), Lower Saxony (33 awards, 340 MW), and Baden-Württemberg (45 awards, 333 MW). Most of the successful bids were for projects near motorways and railways (123 bids, 1,026 MW), followed by projects on farmland or grassland in disadvantaged areas (73 bids, 760 MW) and “special solar installations” (59 bids, 439 MW).
