Germany awards 2,234 MW of solar projects in oversubscribed latest tender

Germany’s Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur) has announced the results of its latest tender for ground-mounted solar PV systems. The auction was 184% oversubscribed, as 569 bids with a capacity of 4,100 MW were submitted out of a tendered quantity of 2,231 MW (already raised from an original quantity of 1,611 MW). 326 bids with a capacity of 2,234 MW were eventually accepted by the Bundesnetzagentur. 

The award values were between €3.62c/kWh and €5.49c/kWh, lower than those of the previous round (€4.44c/kWh and €5.47c/kWh) and below the maximum value set at €7.37c/kWh. The average volume-weighted award value in this round was €5.11c/kWh, which is 1% below the value of the previous round (€5.17c/kWh). The largest capacity was awarded in Bavaria (806 MW, 156 awards), followed by Schleswig-Holstein (221 MW, 17 awards) and Lower Saxony (199 MW, 20 awards). 

In its previous solar auctions in August 2023 and February 2024, Germany awarded 1,673 MW and 1,613 MW, respectively, in tenders that was also largely oversubscribed. The next round of tenders for solar systems in the first segment will take place in July 2024.
