The German Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur) has awarded offshore area N-9.4 to the French energy group TotalEnergies. The company, as a shareholder of North Sea OFW One, was determined as the only successful bidder through a multi-stage bidding process. The concession is granted for a period of 25 years, extendable to 35 years. Area N-9.4 is located in the German North Sea, at approximately 150 km northwest of the German island of Heligoland and it has a potential capacity of 1 GW.
The offshore area is at proximity to RWE and TotalEnergies’ N-9.1 and N-9.2 sites, that are jointly owned by RWE and TotalEnergies, and it should help create synergies and optimize the development of the cluster.
TotalEnergies has 28 GW of installed gross renewable electricity generation capacity (at the end of March 2025) and aims to reach 35 GW by the end of 2025, and more than 100 TWh of net electricity production by 2030.
