Gaz-System plans to install an FSRU in the bay of Gdansk (Poland)

The Polish gas transmission operator Gaz-System has announced the completion of the tendering procedure regarding the Gdansk Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) terminal feasibility study. The outcome of the study will be published by the end of 2017 and Gaz-System expects to ink a deal with the future contractor by the end of March 2017. Eight bidders took part in the process.

This FSRU project is strategic for the Polish economy since it would allow the country to import from 4.1 up to 8.1 bcm/year of LNG to Poland and the neighbouring countries and to further reduce Poland's dependence on Russian gas. The current proposed location is the bay of Gdansk and the project cost could amount as much as PLN3bn (€700m). The floating unit is expected to supply Poland's grid with regasified natural gas but could also reload LNG to smaller tankers or to bunkering gas-fueled vessels.

Gaz-System is also operating the 5 bcm/year Swinoujscie LNG terminal, which was commissioned in 2016 and could be later expanded to 7.5 bcm/year.
