French renewable tender awards 513 MW of solar and wind projects

The French Ministry of Ecological Transition has unveiled the results of the second round of technology-neutral tender for hydropower, wind and solar power projects, selecting 34 projects with a combined capacity of 513 MW, including 30 ground-mounted solar PV projects ranging from 500 kW to 108 MW - the largest project is a 108 MW solar PV park in Chateaudun (central France) - and 4 wind parks. EDF won 112 MW (including the Chateaudun solar park), followed by Neoen (104 MW) and BayWa re (77 MW). The average price stood at €85.19/MWh (against a maximum price of €90/MWh), which is significantly higher than in the previous round in December 2022 (€76.89/MWh).

In November 2023, the French Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE) selected the winners of its latest wind tender, allocating 931 MW over 54 onshore wind projects across the country; the fifth PPE2 tranche 925 MW has been the third fully subscribed renewable energy auction in France, with the last two allocating around 1 GW of wind and 1.5 GW of solar projects earlier in 2023.
