France's ground mounted solar PV tender 50% undersubscribed

The French government has selected 38 solar projects totaling 339 MW under the 700 MW second tranche of the PP2 call for tenders relating to ground-mounted photovoltaic (PV) installations. The auction concluded with an average price of €68.51/MWh, an increase of 16% compared with the tariff of €58.84/MWh awarded in the first tranche of the tender in March 2022. Winners comprise Q Energy France (66 MW), Générale du Solaire (36 MW), EDF (29 MW) and TotalEnergies (28 MW). Most of the projects will be located in Grand Est region (122 MW).

Auctions for ground-mounted PV installations under the PPE2 programme are scheduled to held twice a year until 2026 with the volume offered increasing to 925 MW from the third tender onwards. The deadline for bidding as part of the third tender is set for 30 November 2022. The country expects to develop 9.95 GW of ground-mounted solar PV installations under the third PPE2 tender round. In 2021, solar accounted for 9% of France’s installed capacity with 13.1 GW.
