France will tender 2.3 GW of solar capacity in June 2023

The French Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE) has published three call for tenders which will take place in June 2023. The country plans to award 2.3 GW of solar and 925 MW of onshore wind. The specifications incorporate changes with regard to financial guarantees, CRE having noted during the last investigation phases that a large number of files were non-compliant due to a defect in the form of the financial guarantees.

In March 2023, the country selected 4 projects totalling 54 MW under the third 925 MW tranche of the PPE2 call for tenders relating to onshore wind installations with an average price of €76.4/MWh (+13% compared to the precedent auction). The state agency received 60 bids totalling 944 MW, so the tender was 2% oversubscribed. The previous round was 64% undersubscribed with 10 proposals totalling 337 MW for a total volume offered of 925 MW.
