France awards almost 1.2 GW of wind projects in an oversubscribed tender

The French Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE) has selected 73 projects totalling 1,156 MW under the fourth 925 MW tranche of the PPE2 call for tenders relating to onshore wind installations with an average price of €85.3/MWh (+9% compared to the previous auction). The state agency received 120 bids totalling 1.8 GW, so the tender was almost two time oversubscribed. The previous round was 2% oversubscribed with 60 proposals totalling 944 MW for a total volume offered of 925 MW.

Wind accounts for nearly 15% of France’s installed capacity with 21 GW (2022). The country added 2.4 GW of wind capacity in 2022, compared to 1.3 GW/year between 2014 and 2021. France targets between 21.8 GW and 26 GW of onshore wind capacity in 2023.
