France awards 948 MW of solar and 755 MW of onshore wind

The French government has awarded 948 MW of solar capacity in the sixth tender round for ground-mounted photovoltaic. This round, offering 925 MW of capacity, was thus slightly oversubscribed. The average tariff reached €79.28/MWh, which is 3% below the previous round. The capacity is spread across 120 projects, which range from 1 MW to 35 MW. The region to secure the largest capacity is Nouvelle Aquitaine (333 MW), followed by Centre-Val de Loire (194 MW) and Occitanie (110 MW). The seventh tender round, also offering 925 MW of solar capacity, is scheduled to open in December 2024.

In addition, in a separate tender, the country selected 48 projects totalling 755 MW in the eighth PP2 tender round for onshore wind, with an initial target 925 MW. The tender was originally oversubscribed, as it attracted 67 proposals totalling 1,043 MW, but 19 were not chosen. The winning projects were selected at average price of €87.92/MWh, which is almost identical to the tariff of the previous tender (€87.80/MWh).
