The French government has unveiled the results of the sixth auction round for ground-mounted solar photovoltaic (PV) projects ranging between 500 kW and 30 MW. A total of 107 projects with a combined capacity of 858 MW were selected at an average bidding price of €64/MWh (+2% compared to the March 2019 round). More specifically, prices averaged €59.5/MWh for projects with capacities exceeding 5 MW and €67.5/MWh for smaller projects with capacities ranging between 500 kW and 5 MW. Prices for solar PV projects on parking canopies averaged €88.3/MWh. Engie won 4 projects (76 MW).
France aims at reaching 40% of renewable energies by 2040 and pushes for the development of solar energy, which is expected to reach between 35.6 GW and 44.5 GW in 2028. In December 2017, the government increased the volume of solar tenders in the country by 1 GW per year in order to accelerate the development of solar PV. These multi-year tenders cover solar volumes of 1.45 GW per year over a period of 3 years. France will now tender up to 2.45 GW per year of solar projects.
