Saudi Arabia's Renewable Energy Project Development Office (REPDO) has received four bids ranging between SAD79.97/MWh (US$21.3/MWh) and SAR127/MWh (US$33.86/MWh) for the 400 MW Dumat Al Jandal wind project in Al Jouf region (Saudi Arabia). The project is likely to be awarded by December 2018 and consortia led by EDF Energies Nouvelles, Engie, ACWA Power and Enel Green Power will be competing.
The tender was launched in July 2017 and the project will be backed by 25 and 20-year power purchase agreements (PPAs). This US$500m wind project would be the first utility-scale wind park in Saudi Arabia. The project fits in the framework of the Saudi Arabian National Renewable Energy Program (NREP), by which the government is implementing its Vision 2030 programme and aims to produce 10% of its power from renewable sources by 2023 (around 30 solar and wind projects with an expected installed capacity of 9.5 GW). 3.45 GW are already planned for 2020 under the framework of the National Transformation Program (NTP).
