Fortum wins 1 GW in Russian wind tender

Finnish power utility Fortum and its local partner Rusnano have secured contracts for 1 GW of wind power projects in the last Russian wind tender for the construction of 1.9 GW of wind capacity, which awarded contracts to a total of 1.65 GW of projects. Fortum expects the 26 selected projects to be commissioned between 2018 and 2022. Italian energy group Enel has been awarded 291 MW, consisting of the 90 MW Azov wind project in Rostov (southern Russia) expected in 2020 and a 201 MW wind project in Murmansk (northwestern Russia) expected in 2021. Finally, Russian nuclear group Rosatom's wind subsidiary VetroOGK has been awarded contracts for 15 wind projects with a combined capacity of 360 MW.

The tender was launched by the Russian government to achieve its targets of 4.5% of energy generation from renewables and 5.5 GW of installed renewable capacity by 2024. Fortum had been pre-qualified to deliver up to 1.4 GW of wind capacity and other bidders competed for 500 MW.
