The Morocco-based renewable company Falcon Capital Dakhla has partnered with France’s Hydrogène de France (HDF) to co-develop an 8 GW green hydrogen production project, supported by 17 GW of renewable capacity, in the Dakhla region of southern Morocco (in the disputed Western Sahara region).
The MAD20bn (US$2bn) White Dunes project will comprise the installation of 8 GW of electrolysers to be powered by 10 GW of wind and 7 GW of solar PV power. The complex, which is scheduled to start production by 2028, will span 150,000 hectares in the Sahara desert.
Morocco aims to reach 52% of renewables in its power capacity in 2030 and 80% in its power mix in 2050 (22% in 2021).
