ExxonMobil Guyana, a subsidiary of the US oil and gas giant ExxonMobil, has submitted its environmental impact assessment (EIA) for the development of its seventh oil project in the Stabroek block off the coast of Guyana. The Hammerhead field is located in the eastern half of the Stabroek block, at about 160 km of the coastline of Georgetown (Guyana) were 14 to 30 development wells are planned to be drilled, including production and water injection wells, installation and operation of a floating production, storage, and offloading vessel (FPSO); installation of a 13 km gas export pipeline from the FPSO that will connect into the gas-to-energy pipeline. The project would start production in 2029, once it receives the required governmental approval, with a crude oil production capacity estimated at 120 to 180 kb/d, increasing the country's production capacity to more than 1.4 mb/d.
In addition, ExxonMobil has also announced its “Wales Gas Vision” project, which aims to provide gas to produce fertilisers through a US$1bn pipeline completed in 2024. The project aims to increase natural gas output and supply in Guyana to fuel onshore power and petrochemical projects. The consortium between ExxonMobil, US Hess and China’s CNOOC plans to construct separate pipelines and a gas-processing and liquefied natural gas (LNG) offshore facility to allow LNG exports and gas supply to Guyana's Berbice area.
