E.ON's electricity sales in Germany dipped by 7.6% in 2017

E.ON finished the 2017 financial year with very strong results. The company's adjusted EBIT of €3.1bn was at the upper end of the forecast range of €2.8 to €3.1bn, while its adjusted net income of €1.4bn surpassed the 2016 figure by 58%. With an economic net debt of €19.2bn at year-end 2017 (€7.1bn reduction on 2016), E.ON has already achieved its debt target.

At year-end 2017, the company's fully consolidated installed generating capacity grew by 13% to 4,716 MW, of which 522 MW (solar) in Germany and 4,194 MW outside Germany (of which 4,179 MW of wind), while its attributable generating capacity grew by 12% to 5,131 MW (4,574 MW in 2016). The main driver behind the increase is the commissioning of the Bruenning Breeze and Radford Run wind parks in the United States. E.ON's owned power generation grew by 24% to 12.5 TWh in 2017. In addition, PreussenElektra (4,150 MW capacity) generated 27.5 TWh (-15% on 2016).

Power sales reached 134.5 TWh in 2017 (down by 5.1% from 142 TWh in 2016), as electricity sales declined in Germany (-7.6% to 40 TWh, due to competition in the residential business and the transfer of remaining wholesale customers to Uniper in the industrial sector) and in the United Kingdom (-6.9% to 35 TWh). Gas sales dipped by 1.1% to 141 TWh in 2017, of which 44 TWh in Germany (+7.3%) and 42.5 TWh in the United Kingdom (-12%).
