Enel wins 54% (1.2 TWh) of Chile's 2024-2043 power auction

Italian energy group Enel has been awarded the lion's share in a tender (Licitación de Suministro Eléctrico) launched by the Chilean National Energy Commission (Comisión Nacional de Energía) to supply 2.2 TWh of power to Chilean distribution companies to meet the energy demand of their regulated customers over the 2024-2043 period.



Enel won 54% of the offered volume (1.18 TWh) at an average price of US$34.7/MWh. The energy awarded to Enel will be generated by a mix of renewable energy projects: 116 MW of solar, 93 MW of wind and 33 MW of geothermal for a total capacity of 242 MW. The solar and geothermal plants will be located in the Antofagasta region and the wind park is expected to be located in the Araucanía region, in southern Chile. All these facilities are scheduled to come onstream by 2024 and will supply of 1,180 TWh to Chilean distribution companies



The remaining capacity has been shared among several companies: Energía Renovable Verano (540 GWh at an average price of US$25/MWh), Atacama Solar (220 GWh), Cox Energía (140 GWh) and Atacama Energy Holdings (120 GWh). The average price in the auction was as low as US$32.5/MWh.
