The Italian company Enel has been awarded the right to sign 20-year power supply contracts for the 388 MW São Gonçalo solar PV project in Brazil, following the A-4 public auction held by the Brazilian Federal Regulator ANEEL (Agência Nacional de Energia Elétrica). Enel plans to invest US$355m for the construction of the facility, which is expected to start operations in early 2021 and to generate more than 850 GWh/year of electricity.
The plant will be located in the São Gonçalo do Gurguéia municipality, in the State of Piauí. 49% of the A-4 public tender was awarded to Enel out of a total capacity of 791 MW that was put up for auction.
Enel has a total renewable capacity of nearly 2,660 MW in Brazil, of which 670 MW from wind power, 716 MW from solar PV and 1,270 MW from hydropower through its subsidiaries EGPB and Enel Brasil. Besides, the company is currently building 172 MW of wind and 103 MW of solar capacity.
