Enel and GN Fenosa win 339 MW and 250 MW in Spain's renewables tender

The Spanish government published the results of the 2017 second renewable energies tender, which focused on wind and solar. 5,037 MW have been allocated, of which 3,909 MW of solar capacity and 1,128 MW of wind capacity. This figure is far above the 3,000 MW which were initially planned.

Enel, acting through its Spanish subsidiary Endesa’s renewable company Enel Green Power España (EGPE), has been awarded 339 MW of solar power capacity. This solar capacity adds to the 540 MW of wind power capacity that EGPE already won in the May 2017 tender. EGPE plans to invest approximately €270m in the construction of this solar capacity and the plants are expected to be commissioned in 2019 in the regions of Murcia and Badajoz.

The Spanish construction company ACS has been awarded 1,550 MW of solar power capacity in the auction through its affiliate Cobra. X-Elio, a solar company owned by KKR and Gestamp, has obtained 455 MW while Forestalia has received 316 MW. Gas Natural Fenosa has been awarded 250 MW and plans to invest €165m until 2019 while Solaria announced it was granted 250 MW as well. Alter and Alten have won 50 MW and 13 MW respectively. As for wind capacity, Alfamar Capital Energia has won 720 MW while Greenalia and Ibervento respectively received 133 MW and 172 MW.

The government expects that this auctions will help Spain to meet its 20% renewable targets by 2020. As of July 2017, EGPE is a 100% subsidiary of Endesa Generación and operates around 1,675 MW of capacity in Spain, of which 1,618 MW comes from wind, 43 MW from hydropower and 14 MW solar and biomass.
