Enel and Engie among winners of the Mexican third power auction

The Mexican state-run Centro Nacional de Control de Energía (Cenace) has updated the results of the nationwide third power auction (Tercera Subasta de Largo Plazo) for large-scale renewable projects. A combined capacity of 2,560 MW has been pre-selected with an average price of US$20.57/MWh. Engie and Enel are among the winners of the auction, with respective capacities of 687.8 MW (wind and solar) and 593 MW (wind). In total, 15 facilities will be built, of which 9 solar and 5 wind parks.



Engie will develop three solar parks: 254 MWc Calpulalpan (Tlaxcala), 199 MWc Villa Ahumada (Chihuahua), and 134 MWc Abril (Sonora), along with the 100.8 Tres Mesas 4 wind park (Tamaulipas). The company plans to invest around US$580m for the development of the four projects.



Enel will build three wind parks in the city of Acuña, in the northern State of Coahuila: Amistad II and Amistad III with an installed capacity of 100 MW each, and Amistad IV with an installed capacity of 149 MW. Besides, it will build the 244 MW Dolores wind project facility in China in Nuevo León. The company plans to invest around US$700m for the development of the four projects, which are expected to generate 2.1 TWh/year when commissioned in the first half of 2020.
