The Polish Ministry of Energy (Ministerstwo Energii) is planning the construction of a 500 MW coal gasification plant for electricity generation (IGCC). The feasibility study is slated to be ready by the end of this year and the project cost is expected to amount around PZl5bn (€1.18bn). The planned integrated gasification combined cycle facility would be built by the state-held utility Enea and will be supplied by coal from the Bogdanka mining unit (in the neighbourhood of Lublin, Poland). For this purpose, a production increase of 1 Mt/year will have to be implemented at the coal mine.
In the meantime, Enea is currently implementing the construction of the 1,075 MW Kozienice Power Plant in Świerże Górne (Kozienice County, Masovian Voivodeship, Poland). The power block N°11 (Kozienice-11) is close to commissioning and it has been synchronized with the Polish power grid on 1 September 2017. Once fully commissioned, Kozienice-11 will increase the output capacity of the Kozienice Power Plant up to 4,000 MW, pushing Enea Group’s share in the domestic production of electricity up to 13%. The future commissioning stages include only adjustments and optimization of the block’s operations.
Enea owns a 66% stake in Lubelski Węgiel Bogdanka SA, the society in charge of the Bogdanka mining facility. In 2016, the coal production at the Bogdanka coal mines amounted to around 9 Mt. The group reported 5.2 GW of installed generation capacity in 2016, of which 443 MW in renewable energy sources (wind parks and hydropower plants).
