Eletrobras plans to invest US$23bn by 2017 (Brazil)

Brazilian power utility Petrobras has unveild its Master Business and Management Plan. By 2017, the company will invest R$20.3bn (US$8.9bn) in new projects of generation, transmission and distribution, which will be added to the R$32.1bn (US$14.1bn) already contracted, amounting to R$52.4bn (US$23bn). In the next 4 years Eletrobras aims to expand its generation capacity by 13,000 MW and its power transmission network by 19,400 km. Currently, generation projects are in progress amounting to 23,200 MW, considering corporate projects and those in partnership with other companies, being 88% from hydroelectricity, 8.6% from thermal and 3.4% from wind or solar source.

The plan also provides for the creation of a Special Purpose Entity (SPE) to manage the transmission lines of the Madeira Complex and an Executive Committee to supervise the construction of Angra 3, in addition to the continuation of the studies to restructure the Distribution business.
