EIB grants €335m to Endesa for wind and solar projects (785 MW) in Spain

The European Investment Bank (EIB) has granted a green loan to the Spanish energy group Endesa, helping it to build 15 wind park projects with a capacity of 446 MW and three solar photovoltaic (PV) plants with a capacity of 339 MW across the country. The facilities are slated to be built in six autonomous communities, namely Aragón, Castilla-La Mancha, Castilla-León, Extremadura, Galicia and Murcia.

Endesa was awarded 540 MW of wind capacity and 339 MW of solar capacity in the auctions for new renewable electricity generation facilities that took place in May and July 2017, respectively. They will be built through Enel Green Power Spain (EGPE), Endesa's renewable energies affiliate. Approximately €800m will be invested in the projects, which will boost the capacity of EGPE's Spanish portfolio by an estimated 52% once built. EGPE currently has a renewable power generation capacity of 1,675 MW.

This move fits into the Spanish National Action Plan for Renewable Energies, which predicts that 20% of the energy used in Spain in 2020 must come from renewable sources.
