The European Investment Bank (EIB) has approved loans for an undisclosed amount of funding for the Fécamp and St-Nazaire offshore wind park projects, which will be built offshore France. The EIB reckons that offshore wind energy will support EU and national targets for renewable electricity generation, and will contribute to the security of power supply and environmental objectives.
The 498 MW Fécamp offshore wind park will comprise 83 GE Haliade 6 MW turbines. It will be developed by EDF Energies Nouvelles (EDF EN), Enbridge and WPD Offshore, and is expected to provide electricity to around 770,000 people. Its commissioning was initially envisaged in 2020 but has been postponed to 2021 or 2022.
The 480 MW Saint-Nazaire wind project will feature 80 GE Haliade 6 MW units. It will be developed off Saint-Nazaire (Loire Atlantique) by Parc du Banc de Guérande, a 100% subsidiary of Eolien maritime France, jointly co-owned by EDF Energies Nouvelles (EDF EN) and Enbridge. The commissioning is expected for 2021.
