EIB allocates €276m for European energy investments

The European Investment Bank (EIB) will dedicate €276m of new financing for energy investments projects across the European Union. The funds will be allocated in particular to support the development of the Northwester-2 offshore wind park project in Belgium along with the Olsztyn waste-to-energy power plant in Poland. Besides, the spendings will also support the HVDC power interconnector between the Greek mainland and the Crete island. In addition, the EIB will provide €538m for social housing investment (near zero energy residential buildings) in Spain and Sweden and will support energy consumption cuts efforts in hotels and industrial laundry facilities in Spain and retail centres in Poland, and more efficient lighting technology in Austria, Germany, France and the UK.

The 224 MW Northwester-2 project is expected to reach financial close in 2018 and to start construction by 2020. Parkwind will run the project with a 46% interest, while Colruyt owns 30%, Incontrol 14% and TTR 10%. The project also benefits from a new applicable support scheme (green certificate) and an updated levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) of €79/MWh.
