The state-held Ethiopian utility Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) has published the list of pre-qualified bidders for the development of a 250 MW scaling solar tender that was launched in October 2017. The tender is divided in two PV projects with a capacity of 125 MW each. So far, 28 developers have submitted their applications and 12 have been qualified to submit a proposal in the bidding process, some of which (four bidders) alone, while the remaining will be competing under the framework of a consortium (8 consortia in total). The selected companies include in particular ACWA Power, the EDF/Masdar consortium, Total Eren/Access Power, Kepco/KoSPCo, Enel Green Power, Mitsui and Scatec Solar.
Ethiopia plans to add 12 GW of hydropower, solar, wind and geothermal capacity via the private sector by 2020 under the framework of the Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP 2). Ethiopia organized a 100 MW solar tender in October 2017, won by a consortium including Enel Green Power and the Ethiopian infrastructure company Orchid Business Group. The two companies will invest US$120m in the PV project, which will be located in Metehara (Oromia region).
