The Ecuadorian national oil and gas company Petroecuador has announced a tender process to find an operator for its offshore gas field Amistad, located 72 km from the province of El Oro, in the Gulf of Guayaquil Gulf (south-eastern Ecuador). Petroecuador aims to increase the production of the field, but given its current lack of technical know-how and personnel to achieve its goal, it was decided to initiate the international bidding process to have companies with expertise in offshore natural gas activities to manage the Amistad field. Current production from the field is of about 0.6 mcm/d of natural gas, coming from three out of the 17 wells that have been drilled so far, and the field holds proven reserves of 4.7 bcm.
In August 2023, Petroecuador launched a bidding process to attract over US$173m in private investment for the development of its Amistad natural gas field, however the process left no successful bidders.
