Dominion Energy launches modernization of Virginia's power grid (US)

The US energy utility Dominion Energy Virginia plans to add 3,000 MW of solar and wind power capacity by 2022; the projects will be a combination of assets developed and procured by the company. For this purpose, the company has unveiled a new set of plans under the framework of the Grid Transformation & Security Act (GTSA).



Significant investments will be made to improve the state's power grid and make sure it will be able to cope with the increasing share of renewable energies. 2.1 million smart meters (both residential and businesses) will be deployed thanks to approximately US$450m of investments. Besides, US$870m will be dedicated to energy efficiency programs over the next decade



Dominion Energy is growing and recently acquired the US energy holding SCANA Corporation in an US$14.6bn all-stock merger deal. It now has an installed power capacity of 31,400 MW and will operate 93,600 miles (150 600 km) of power transmission and distribution lines along with 106,400 miles (171,200 km) of gas pipelines and 1 Tcf (28 bcm) of gas storage capacity.
