Denmark selects 10 companies to compete for €3.8bn CCS fund

The Danish Energy Agency has selected 10 companies to compete for DKK28.7bn (€3.8bn) to finance CCS projects. From a total of 16 applications from companies to pre-qualify to compete for Denmark’s CCS fund, the DEA selected 10 companies based on their experience with CCS projects and activities, or with major infrastructure projects, including Ørsted Bioenergy & Thermal Power and E.ON Carbon Capture Solutions Copenhagen. Funding will be paid out per tonne of CO₂ captured and stored; the CO2 should be captured within the country and stored either in Denmark or abroad. The pre-qualified companies are to submit detailed project descriptions and bids before 26 August 2025, which will be subject to a negotiation phase towards a final and binding offers scheduled for December 2025. Contract awards are planned for April 2026.

In October 2024, the DEA launched its CCS fund to cover the costs of capture, transportation and geological storage of fossil, biogenic or atmospheric CO2 over a 15-year contract period. Expecting to reduce the country’s 2.3 MtCO2/year by 2030, the fund is subject to state aid approval from the European Commission.
