Denmark opens consultation on the up to 1.2 GW Hesselø offshore wind project

The Danish Energy Agency has initiated a public consultation about the Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) for the revised southern location of the 800-1,200 MW Hesselø Offshore Wind project. The consultation will be open from 5 February to 5 April 2024.

In June 2021, the DEA put on hold the tender for the Hesselø offshore wind project due to the findings of soft clay formations in the upper 20-30 meters below the seabed, affecting the site conditions for the project installation. In June 2022, the offshore wind project was relocated in the Kattegat area to 30 km from Zealand (Denmark), further south of the original area assigned to it.

Once the consultations are completed, the final tender is expected to be published in the spring of 2024 with a February 2025 deadline. The project is expected to be commissioned by the end of 2029.
