Denmark offers €7.4bn in subsidies for offshore wind development

The Danish government has announced plans to offer as much as DKK55.2bn (€7.4bn) in subsidies for its upcoming offshore wind tenders. Denmark has scheduled three tenders for the third quarter of 2025, with two of them planned to close in spring 2026 and the remaining one in late 2027, with completion dates for 2032 and 2033. Considering a lack of interest in its previous tender and complicated market conditions, the government has decided to offer a subsidy within the upcoming tenders, which will be determined according to the submitted bids and the evolution of electricity prices, with a cap set at DKK55.2bn (€7.4bn) for a 20-year period.

In February 2025, the Danish Energy Agency announced the revision of its existing framework for ongoing offshore wind tenders due to the lack of bids received on its first North Sea offshore wind tender.

Denmark plans to supply 100% of its power consumption with renewables by 2027, to reduce GHG emissions by 70% in 2030, and to reach carbon neutrality by 2045.
