Denmark launches tender for the 800-1,000 MW Thor offshore wind project

The Danish Energy Agency has launched the tendering process for the Thor offshore wind project, with a capacity of 800-1000 MW. The project, which will be located in the North Sea at least 20 km from the coast. The total investment costs for Thor are estimated at a total of DKK15.5bn (€2.1bn) and the project is expected to be fully commissioned and connected to the grid by 2027 at the latest. The final tender deadline for the tender is expected to be 8 November 2021. The authorization is given for 30 years with the possibility of extension for 5 years.

In 2018, the Danish government signed a new Energy Agreement with Parliament parties to raise the share of renewables to 100% of power consumption, 90% of district heating consumption, and 55% of total energy consumption by 2030. The Thor offshore wind project is the first of the three offshore wind plants agreed to be established in the 2018 Energy Agreement.
