Croatia's renewables tender for 638 MW undersubscribed by 76%

The Croatian Energy Market Operator (HROTE) has received 19 bids totalling 150 MW in a 638 MW renewable auction launched in April 2022. Specifically, the country received 3 proposals for wind totalling 113 MW, 5 bids for solar plants totalling 13 MW, 1 proposal for geothermal totalling 10 MW, 7 bids for biogas plants totalling 9 MW and 3 proposals for hydropower totalling 5 MW. The final results will be released by end of July 2022.

Selected projects, which must start delivering power in 2024, will receive 12-year feed-in premium contracts with a ceiling price set at HRK495.6/MWh (€65.9/MWh) for solar and HRK460.9/MWh (€61.3/MWh) for wind. Croatia was offering 300 MW of solar, 300 MW of wind, 16 MW of biogas, 10 MW of geothermal, 8 MW of biomass and 4 MW of hydropower. Renewables, excluding biomass, account for 66% of Croatia's installed capacity, with 2,170 MW of hydro and 790 MW of wind (end of 2021).
