The Brazilian power generation and distribution company CPFL Energia plans to invest BRL 13.5bn (US$2.9bn) by 2024, including BRL 3bn (US$640m) in 2020. The bulk of this amount will be directed to power distribution, with an investment of BRL 2.2bn (US$471m) in 2020 and a total of BRL 11.6bn (US$2.5bn) by 2024. In addition, CPFL Energia will invest more than BRL 1bn (US$214m) in power generation and BRL 564m (US$120m) in power transmission by 2024.
CPFL Energia is 94.75%-owned by China State Grid International. The company is one of the largest power distribution companies in Brazil, with nearly 324,000 km of distribution lines and 12,540 km of transmission lines. In 2018, the group distributed 67 TWh electricity to 9.6 million users in 687 cities in its concession area covering São Paulo, Rio Grande do Sul, Minas Gerais and Parana. CPFL Energia is also one of the largest private power producer in Brazil, with an installed capacity of 3.3 GW and a power generation of nearly 11 TWh in 2018 (of which 7.8 TWh from hydropower and 2.2 TWh from wind).
