Corio Generation and Jera plans to bid in Taiwan’s 2 GW Formosa 3 project

Corio Generation, a portfolio company of Macquarie Green Investment Group launched in 2022, and Japanese company Jera have agreed to jointly bid for the third phase of Taiwan’s offshore wind zonal development auction with their 2 GW Formosa 3 project. The project will comprise three sites named Haiding 1, 2 and 3, located off the Changhua county (central-western coast of Taiwan).

Jera and Green Investment Group (GIG) have already partnered on the Formosa 1 (128 MW, operational) and Formosa 2 (376 MW, under construction) projects. Jera joined the Formosa 3 project in 2020 after reaching an agreement with GIG and EnBW and acquiring 43.75% of the project. Once completed, Formosa 3 will be able to power between 1.5 and 2 million Taiwanese homes.

In 2021, offshore wind represented less than 1% of Taiwan’s installed capacity (237 MW), as the island only installed its first offshore wind turbine in 2017.
