Connecticut (US) selects Vineyard Wind's 804 MW offshore wind project

The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) of Connecticut (United States) has selected Vineyard Wind's proposed 804 MW Park City offshore wind project in response to their 2019 solicitation for offshore wind project. Vineyard Wind will now enter into contract negotiations with the two state’s power utilities, The United Illuminating Company and Eversource Energy, to sign 20-year power purchase agreements (PPAs).

The DEEP issued a request for proposal for up to 2,000 MW of offshore wind power in late August 2019. Vineyard Wind, a 50-50 joint venture of Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) and Avangrid Renewables (Iberdrola), proposed to deliver up to 1,200 MW of offshore wind power to Connecticut. Vineyard Wind planned to develop a set of offshore wind project proposals, named Park City Wind, including a required 400 MW plan and options to develop projects of 800 MW, 1,000 MW and 1,200 MW. The DEEP had also received bids from Mayflower Wind, a joint venture of Shell and EDPR Offshore North America, that has submitted two bids for 804 MW and for 408 MW, and from Revolution Wind, a joint venture of Orsted and Eversource, for a 304 MW project.
