Completion of cold testing phase at Mochovce-3 nuclear project (Slovakia)

The Slovakian power utility Slovenské Elektrárne (SE) has completed the cold testing phase at the 440 MW Mochovce-3 nuclear reactor project. Once commissioned by the end of 2018, it will deliver the produced electricity to the Slovakian transmission system through a 400kV line. The fourth unit (Mochovce-4) is still scheduled for completion by the end of 2019.

SE is building two 440 MW (471 MW gross) reactors at its Mochovce nuclear power plant, which could later be increased up to 535 MW. Both were initially expected to be commissioned in 2012 at a cost of €2.8bn but the project has suffered several delays and cost overruns, reaching an estimated cost of €5.4bn. Under a December 2015 agreement, Enel agreed to sell its remaining 33% stake in SE to Czech energy group EPH after the completion of the nuclear project; EPH would eventually sell a 17% in stake in SE to the government of Slovakia. The new shareholders of Slovenské Elektrarné would then be the state (51%) and EPH (49%)
