Colombia’s ISA won a US$650m transmission project in Brazil

The Brazilian National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL) has awarded ISA CTEEP, a subsidiary of the Colombian power transmission company ISA in Brazil, the responsibility for constructing, operating, and maintaining Lot 1, which involves an investment of nearly US$650m to build 1,116 km of transmission lines and three new substations connecting the states of Bahia and Minas Gerais. The project aims to facilitate the integration of renewable energies, primarily from wind and solar parks, in the western region of Bahia. Lot 1 was previously awarded to the Genesis Consortium, but the company has been disqualified by ANEEL following irregularities.

Additionally, ISA CTEEP secured lots 7 (Itatiaia Project) and 9 (Água Vermelha Project) in a June 2023 auction. Lot 7 involves the construction of transmission lines and a new substation to transport solar energy to the metropolitan region of Rio de Janeiro. Lot 9 will connect new photovoltaic generation projects and enable the transportation of surplus biomass generation in São Paulo and the Mineiro Triangle region.
