CIP and Ignitis win a 1.4 GW offshore wind tender in Estonia

The Estonian Authority for Consumer Protection and Technical Regulation (CPTRA) has selected the Lithuanian company Ignitis Renewables and the Danish group Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) as winners of the 1.4 GW Liivi 2 sea area wind auction, with a €1.7m bid placed through its Growth Markets Fund II.

The “Ignitis renewables projektai 6” aims to install up to 88 electric wind turbines with a total capacity of up to 1.4 GW planned to be erected in an area of approximately 115 km2, in the northwest of Ruhnu Island (near Estonia’s Baltic Sea coast). The project is still subject to obtain the relevant permits, contracting suppliers and securing financing. It is expected to become operational past 2030.

This is Ignitis Renewables second offshore wind tender secured in the Baltic States, with 700 MW of offshore wind in Lithuania’s Baltic Sea coast capacity being awarded to the company in October 2023, further advancing on its overall objective to achieve 4–5 GW of installed green and flexible capacities by 2030.

In August 2023, Ignitis Renewables and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) through its New Markets Fund, signed an agreement to jointly participate in the auctions for multiple offshore wind sites in Estonia and Latvia during the last quarter of 2023.
